DIY Organic Sweet Love Sugar Scrub

Organic Sugar Scrub

I never could understand why people would buy a pre-made sugar scrub for $15+ when they could easily make it themselves. It requires very little time and even less money. Plus it's FUN! My daughter simply loves making these with me, so it's a nice way to squeeze in a little family time and to allow yourself to be creative. When all is said and done you've got yourself a spa worthy moisturizing and exfolitating treatment that cost pennies to make but feels absolutely luxurious and extravagent. Plus it's 100% natural and organic! Did I mention that it smells just like love? Vanilla, Rose, Lavender, Cinnamon, and Cardamom mix wonderfully to create the warm, sweet, and spicy aroma of pure love.

With Valentine's Day approaching I was thinking about all the roses that will be given and then eventually tossed away. Why not choose to extend the joy those roses bring by drying the petals and using them to make this lovely scrub?

What you will need:

3/4 Cup sugar (I used raw organic cane sugar but you can use whatever you have on hand)

1/4 Cup rose petals

1/8 Cup lavender flowers (optional)

1 vanilla bean or 1 tsp vanilla extract

1 cinnamon stick (optional)

2 Tablespoons coconut oil *

1 Tablespoon olive oil*

1 Tablespoon rosehip oil*

3-4 drops Rose essential oil

3-4 drops Lavender essential oil

3-4 drops Cardamom essential oil

* Feel free to substitiute with the carrier oil of your choosing

Instructions:

1. Combine the sugar, cinnamon, rose petals, and lavender flowers ( if using ) in a food processor and blend until no large chunks remain.

2. Add vanilla, coconut oil, rosehip oil, and olive oil and blend again until well combined. You can add as much or as little oil as you like to reach the consistancy you desire. Less oil for a drier more sandlike consitancy and more oil for wetter more paste-like scrub.

3. Add the essential oils. You can add a little more if you desire a stronger scent. You can replace the essential oils in this recipe with any skin safe essential oils you prefer.

4. Place the finished scrub in an airtight container. This should keep for 1-2 weeks. Use right away for the refeshest experience possilbe. You can also add a couple of drops of vitamin E to help it last a little bit longer.

5. Enjoy your smooth moisturized skin!
